Providing a healing environment is a priority at Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center's Level III NICU. Our facility combines a quiet, healing environment with leading-edge medical and technical care.
Our environment is designed to match the warmth, calmness and quietness of the womb as much as possible.
We believe it is important to offer an environment that supports healing and continued growth.
Even the lighting in the unit can be changed so that the babies can get adjusted to the daily rhythms of everyday life.
Family-centered care is encouraged at Atrium Health Floyd. Mother's will find supportive lactation consultants who are available to help with breastfeeding needs.
High-tech Beds, Blankets
The babies sleep in Giraffe OmniBeds, which will cradle them from the time they enter the NICU until they leave. These specially designed beds help keep the babies at the right temperature and can even control humidity. The beds can be kept open or covered, to simulate darkness.
The babies also benefit from special, water-cooled blankets. That drop in temperature can protect those who might have been born with a brain trauma.
