Dr Cowan is a practicing anesthesiologist, director of the Floyd Perioperative Care department, Surgical Quality Officer for the Southeast Region and leads Perioperative Optimization development for the Enterprise.

She is board certified with the American Board of Anesthesiologists, and is a member of the Society for Perioperative Assessment and Quality Improvement, American Society of Enhanced Recovery and American Association for Physician Leadership.

Her clinical interests include patient safety, multidisciplinary perioperative care pathways and leveraging technology in health care. She is a certified Epic physician builder.
