Atrium Health Floyd Announces 10 New Residents, Names Chief Residents

​​​ROME, Ga., July 1, 2024 The Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program has named Dr. Sierra Armbrust and Dr. Jacob Collier as chief residents for the new academic year beginning today. Chief residents are selected and voted on by their peers and are approved by faculty and staff. During their one-year term, they will serve in leadership roles, mentoring underclassmen and acting as liaisons between residents and faculty.

Armbrust received a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Suwanee, Georgia.

Collier received a Doctor of Medicine from Mercer University School of Medicine in Macon, Georgia.

The Residency Program is also welcoming 10 first-year residents, increasing from nine in the previous year:

Dr. Busayo Adesanya received Doctor of Medicine from Meharry College of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee.

Dr. Fredrick Chambers II received a Doctor of Medicine from the University of South Alabama via Brookwood Baptist Health in Mobile, Alabama.

Dr. Ethan Harrison received a Doctor of Medicine from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia.

Dr. Oluwagbemisola Israel received a Doctor of Medicine from Trinity School of Medicine in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Dr. Keeliann Mark received a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the University of Pikeville- Kentucky College of Medicine in Pikeville, Kentucky.

Dr. Siena Pangtay received a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth-Texas College of Medicine in Fort Worth, Texas.

Dr. Scott Rankin received a Doctor of Medicine from St. George's University School of Medicine via Bayhealth Medical Family Medicine Program in Grenada.

Dr. Steven Sochacki received a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Kansas City University College of Medicine via HCA Florida Westside Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.

Dr. Ashley Thurstin received a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from VCOM – Carolinas in Spartanburg, South Carolina.  

Dr. Emily Walthall received a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from VCOM – Auburn in Auburn, Alabama.

"This is an exciting time for our organization. We are onboarding 10 interns, which is an increase from previous years," said Dr. Kelly Culbertson, Program Director/Designated Institutional Official of Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center Family Medicine Residency. “This class of interns will gain valuable hands-on experience that will prepare them to address workforce shortages. Their broad backgrounds will be an asset to our program thanks to the experiences they bring with them. Atrium Health Floyd continues to be committed to training amazing physicians! We are also excited about our chiefs this year. They bring great strengths to our program, and one of them is from our local community."

The Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program trains physicians in the specialty of family medicine. The program provides three years of academic and clinical post-doctoral education to medical school graduates and offers hands-on experience to residents in preparation for full-time medical careers.
