Atrium Health Floyd Nurse Tech Recognized for Dedication to Patients

11.02.2023

BEE Award Goes to Malik McKay

ROME, Ga., Nov. 2, 2023 Malik McKay's dedication to patients and his willingness to always help when needed earned the nurse technician a BEE Award at Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center.

The BEE Award is an acronym for Beyond Exceptional Expectations.

“This is something we established last year during Nurses Week," said Sheila Bennett, senior vice president and chief of patient services at Atrium Health Floyd. “Nurses are recognized through the DAISY Award, but we wanted to recognize our clinical partners."

Both McKay's dedication and demeanor were recognized by those who nominated him.

“He is a competent worker who shows compassion and respect for the inherent dignity and attributes of each patient," the nomination stated. “He shows up to work with a smile on his face. He is consistently dedicated to providing exceptional patient care with ethical integrity. He understands the patients' needs and is always willing to assist with any patient on the unit, regardless of who is assigned to take care of the patient. He engages in respectful and professional relationships with colleagues and superiors. He is an asset to the team with the shared goal of providing compassionate patient care."

McKay is a Rome High School graduate and is attending nursing school at Georgia Northwestern Technical College.

“I really want to be a med-surge (medical-surg) nurse," he said. “I just love helping people. I connect with them on a personal level."
