Heyman HospiceCare at Floyd Wins Award for Patient and Family Care

09.20.2021

An organization that helps hospice and home health providers improve the services they provide to patients and their families has recognized Heyman HospiceCare at Floyd.

Heyman HospiceCare has earned Hospice Honors recognition from HEALTHCAREfirst.

Hospice Honors is an award given to hospice providers that continuously provide the highest level of quality care and experience as measured from the point of view of a patient's caregiver. A caregiver could be a family member, friend or other loved one.

The award was based on caregiver responses to surveys collected from October 2019 through September 2020. These surveys measure the quality of care provided to patients and families by hospice and home health providers.

Award recipients were evaluated on 24 quality measures. These measures included:

  • Effective symptom management
  • Timely after-hours and on-call responses
  • Teaching families about the condition of the patient and how to care for the patient
  • Treating the family and patient with respect
  • Honoring patient wishes

“This is always such an honor to have our families recognize our commitment to excellence in patient care. However, this year is especially meaningful. This past year has been particularly challenging with the COVID environment and a rapid demand of care needs. We have an extraordinary group of people doing great things in our community," Casey Blankenship, Program Director for Heyman HospiceCare, said.

Heyman HospiceCare at Floyd provides compassionate, comfort-oriented care to people with a life expectancy of less than six months. The organization serves individuals who live in Floyd, Chattooga, Polk, Bartow and Gordon counties. Professional staff and volunteers support patients and families with medical care, respite care and social services to reduce stress and improve quality of life. Referrals are accepted 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling 706.509.3200 or 800.324.1078.
