Floyd Earns Award in Diabetes Collaborative

11.08.2019

Efforts to prevent and treat diabetes earned Floyd recognition as a Top Performer as part of the Vizient Southern States' Diabetes Management Collaborative.

The goal of the collaborative was to reduce readmission of patients with diabetes, decrease emergency room visits, reduce the length of time patients were in the hospital and cut down on incidents where hospitalized patients had adverse reactions to insulin.

“It was helpful to build upon established partnerships with organizations such as the Department of Public Health, among others, who all share our passion for the prevention and reduction of diabetes complications," said Traci Tillery, Director of Specialty Services at Floyd.

“Through our relationship with Vizient Southern States, we have been able to network with our colleagues and share our Diabetes Prevention Program," said Frances Willingham, coordinator of Floyd's Diabetes Prevention Program.

Ten Vizient Southern States' members participated in the collaborative. They received valuable education from leading practice experts, exchanged knowledge on current successes and challenges in community outreach, diabetes prevention, diabetes education and learned how to best connect patients to appropriate care. Vizient Southern States' performance improvement staff provided extra support with coaching calls and in-person meetings.

The collaborative's efforts resulted in an overall savings of $8 million for the entire group.

While everyone contributed, the Top Performers consistently participated in meetings and implemented one or more changes as a result of being in the collaborative. They were:

  • 1st Place — Southeast Georgia Health System
  • 2nd Place — Anderson Regional Medical Center
  • 3rd Place (tie) — Floyd Medical Center and Piedmont Columbus Regional

Vizient Southern States is a membership alliance of not-for-profit health care providers that exists to ensure its members deliver cost-effective care by connecting them with the knowledge, solutions and expertise that accelerate performance.
