To ensure we can accommodate your needs on the day of your surgery, below are some tips to remember.
Registration
Patients should register on the day of surgery, even if they have completed the pre-admission process.
For surgery scheduled at Floyd Outpatient Surgery Center, patients should check-in at the registration desk at the Outpatient Surgery Center, located on the first floor of 330 Physicians Center adjacent to Floyd Medical Center.
For surgery scheduled at Floyd Medical Center, patients should register at the registration desk located at the hospital's Main Entrance on West Sixth Street.
Patient who have not completed the pre-admission process will be asked to complete the admissions form. You may print and complete the Admission Form to
Items to bring
- Any orders, instructions or consent forms provided by your surgeon if you did not take them to pre-admission testing.
- A case or container for glasses or contact lenses.
- Clothing that is comfortable and allows for bulky dressing or splint if your surgery involves an arm or leg.
- If being admitted, bring personal items, robe, slippers and pajamas, if desired.
- A copy of your Living Will or Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care, if you have one.
What to know about medications
- Do not take insulin or other blood-glucose lowering drugs the morning of surgery. Your blood sugar level will be checked and medication administered, if needed.
- Tell your surgeon and anesthesiologist if you take a blood thinner or medicine that will thin blood, including Coumadin, Plavix, Aspirin, Advil, BC, Goody's Powder or herbal/vitamin supplements.
- The pre-admit nurse will talk to you about which of your specific medications you should take the day of your surgery.
What NOT to do the day of surgery
- Do NOT eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your surgery unless otherwise directed by your physician or anesthesiologist.
- Do NOT wear makeup, nail polish or items in your hair such as barrettes, hairpieces or bobby pins.
- Do NOT bring valuables. (i.e. jewelry, money, credit cards)
- Do NOT wear any body piercing or jewelry.
