4. Does breastfeeding cause mothers to lose their figures?

Breastfeeding will not contribute to a loss in your figure. In fact, mothers have an advantage when they choose to breastfeed. There are two reasons breastfeeding helps nursing mothers get their non-pregnancy figures back faster than mothers who chose to bottlefeed.

First, the hormones produced during breastfeeding cause the uterus to contract and return to its pre-pregnancy state. Second, breastfeeding also contributes to a relatively rapid and sustained weight loss. Nursing an infant burns 200 to 500 calories a day. A formulafeeding mother would need to swim 30 laps or ride a bicycle for more than an hour to burn an equivalent number of calories.

Breasts may become less firm after pregnancy, but this is a result of pregnancy, not breastfeeding. Breast size increases during pregnancy and while nursing. Most women's breasts will return to their pre-pregnancy state after birth or after breastfeeding is stopped.

Therefore, breastfeeding will not hurt your figure, but will actually help you reach your pre-pregnancy weight faster.
