Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is the most technologically advanced therapy in wound care. HBOT is a treatment in which the patient breathes 100% oxygen inside a pressurized chamber. The treatment quickly delivers high concentrations of oxygen to the blood stream, which helps wounds heal and is effective in fighting certain infections. HBOT also stimulates the growth of new blood vessels and improves circulation.

During therapy, the patient lies comfortably inside a sealed, glass-enclosed chamber. The chamber gradually fills with pure oxygen and pressure is gradually increased. Most treatment sessions last approximately two hours. Patients may watch TV or videos, relax or sleep while undergoing treatment.

Conditions

HBOT is used to treat the following medical conditions:

  • Diabetic foot ulcers
  • Chronic Osteomyelitis
  • Failed flaps/grafts
  • Radiation therapy side effects to tissue or bone
  • Acute traumatic injury
  • Problem wounds
  • Crush injuries
  • Necrotizing soft tissue infections
