Volunteers are one of the most important members of the hospice care team. They are ordinary people with an extraordinary compassion for patients and their loved ones. With a deep understanding of the hospice concept of care, they are committed to bringing comfort to patients and their families.
Volunteers are specially trained by Heyman HospiceCare at Floyd for the specific type of work that they do for families. They are required to pass a criminal background check, complete the interview and approval process with our volunteer coordinator, and complete a volunteer orientation course.
Hospice volunteers provide a variety of services to patients and their families:
- Sitting with patients to allow family members time to run errands
- Running errands for patients and families
- Cook or provide meals
- Provide emotional support by listening to patients and caregivers
