Our accredited Cancer Care program works with physician specialists to support the care of cancer patients through diagnosis and treatment in the following areas:

Chemotherapy Clinic

Our clinic provides a variety of chemical treatments, depending on the type of cancer being treated.

Clinical Trials

Patients may choose to participate in studies of new cancer treatments or procedures.

Computed Tomography Scanning​

A CT scan is primarily a diagnostic tool, but also has treatment applications.

Endoscopy Laboratory

Endoscopy allows the physician to look inside of the gastric/digestive system using a long, thin tube with a camera attached. These images are is used in the diagnosis of a wide range of cancers.

Wound Care and Hyperbarics

Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center Wound Care and Hyperbarics offers skin wound and ostomy management for patients, including cancer patients.

Lymphedema Therapy

Lymphedema, an accumulation of lymphatic fluid that causes swelling–most often in the arms and/or legs can develop during or following the treatment of some cancers. This therapy helps reduce the swelling (or edema) to improve mobility, function and comfort.

Nuclear Medicine (diagnostic and therapeutic)

This tool uses radioactive isotopes to diagnose or treat patients. it is effective in providing a view of physiological changes caused by cancer that may not be detected by other imaging techniques.

Nutritional Services

Cancer patients may require special diets or counseling during treatment to maintain or restore energy and nutritional balance.

Occupational Therapy

Depending on the nature of the cancer and the type of treatment required, occupational therapy may be recommended to enable the patient to achieve maximum independence following surgery or treatment.

Oncology Medical Services

Our dedicated oncology (cancer care) unit is staffed with specially​ trained nurses to provide in-hospital care for cancer patients.

Pain Management Team

Pain management is an important aspect in the treatment of all patients, including cancer patients. The team works to ensure that each patient’s pain is well managed and tolerated.

Physical Therapy

Depending on the nature and treatment of your cancer, physical therapy may be recommended to help the patient achieve maximum independence.

Speech Therapy

Speech therapy is available to patients who need assistance following the treatment of oral cancer or other cancers that affect speech, swallowing, eating and other functions.

Surgery

Physicians use Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center’s expert staff and technologically advanced surgical services when surgery is the recommended treatment for cancer. We offer both inpatient and outpatient surgery.

Tumor Conferences

These weekly conferences provide an opportunity for medical professionals to discuss specific cases, focusing on how cancers present in patients, diagnostics of suspected cancers, treatment and follow-up. In addition, Atrium Health Floyd holds conferences for specific diagnoses, including lung, breast, genital and urinary ​​​cancers.​
