Funded by an endowment established through the Floyd Healthcare Foundation's "Focus on the Future" campaign, this approach to teaching middle school students the value of postponing sexual involvement has been offered in the city and county public schools since 1997.
Selected high school students are trained as peer teachers by the Foundation's Youth Program Coordinator. After training, they go to middle schools to teach the students how to say no through role-playing and discussions supervised by the classroom teacher.
The success of the program is evident in the reduced number of teen pregnancies since the program began.
