Floyd  History 1971

1971 - A $1 million east extension and renovation began. An infection control program was started, and the Floyd Hospital Auxiliary was formed.

Floyd  History 1976

1976 - A $6.5 million, 98,000 square-foot, four-story wing was added, marking the first phase in the development of Floyd Hospital as a regional medical center. The Family Practice Residency program was added.

Floyd  History 1977

1977 - Floyd Hospital became Floyd Medical Center. Floyd entered into a management agreement with Chattooga County Hospital and Oak View Nursing Home.

Floyd  History 1979

1979 - The surgery department expanded and a new medical and surgical intensive care unit was built. Floyd Health Care Foundation was organized.

Floyd  History 1981

1981 - Floyd Medical Center was designated as a Level II Trauma Center, making it a referral center for patients with complex trauma care needs.

Floyd  History 1984

1984 - Floyd Home Health Agency was acquired, and the ambulance service began nonemergency transfers.

Floyd  History 1986

1986 - An $18 million renovation project began, adding two floors – the fifth floor for cardiovascular patients and the sixth floor for psychiatric and substance abuse patients.

1987 - A four-level parking deck and enclosed overhead walkway across Turner McCall Boulevard was constructed.

Floyd  History 1988  

1988 - A three-story Medical Office Building was constructed. A 14-bed Diabetic Care Center and an Outpatient Surgery Center opened. The 75,000th baby was born at Floyd Medical Center.

Floyd  History 1989

1989 - The North addition opened with a new lobby, patient service area, administrative offices and Floyd rehabilitation services.
